How much does a session cost?

  • Individual Therapy is $125 for a 50-minute session

  • Couples Counseling is $150 for a 50-minute session

Can I use my insurance?

At this time, Modern Counseling & Wellness is considered an in-network provider for the following health insurance plans:

  • Aetna

For all other insurance plans, we are considered an out-of-network provider. A monthly statement (also known as a “superbill”) will be provided to you, which you can submit to your insurance provider for reimbursement if your plan includes out-of-network benefits.

Please Note: We are currently in the process of paneling with the following insurance providers and expect frequent updates to our in-network status. Updates will be reflected on this page as soon as they are available.

  • Blue Cross Blue Shield

  • Blue Care Network

  • UHC/Optum

  • Priority

  • Tricare

What is a “superbill”?

A superbill is an itemized statement that outlines the therapy services you’ve received. It includes key details such as the date of service, diagnostic codes, provider information, and the total cost of your sessions. Depending on your insurance plan, clients typically receive reimbursement ranging from 60% to 80%. Please note that most insurance plans do not cover the cost of couples counseling, and reimbursement or coverage is unlikely in these cases.

We recommend contacting your insurance provider prior to your first appointment to ask the following questions in order to better understand your financial responsibilities and reimbursement options:

  1. Do I have out-of-network benefits for therapy that utilizes the CPT code "90834"?

  2. Is there a deductible I need to meet before I can receive reimbursement for out-of-network services?

  3. Once the deductible is met, what percentage of the therapy costs will be covered?

  4. What is the process for submitting a claim for reimbursement?

  5. How long should I expect to wait for reimbursement once the claim is submitted?

By clarifying these details in advance, you can ensure a smoother experience with your insurance coverage.

What methods of payment are accepted?

Modern Counseling & Wellness utilizes Simple Practice (in partnership with Stripe) to process all credit, debit and HSA cards. This platform is secure and HIPAA compliant. We also accept cash and checks made payable to Modern Counseling & Wellness, PLLC. Payments are processed on the day of your appointment.

I do not have out-of-network coverage and cannot afford the cost of sessions. Are there other options?

Yes! To ensure that cost is not a barrier to care, we offer competitive sliding scale fees for those who may need it. Please let your therapist know during your initial consultation if you would like to learn more about flexible pricing.

I’m new here, what can I expect?

It’s totally normal to feel a bit overwhelmed when starting therapy, but don’t worry – we’re here to make the whole process as smooth and comfortable as possible.

To get started, you will want to reach out via email or telephone to request a free consultation. In this email or phone call you will want to provide some basic information including your name, age and a brief overview of what you are looking for in therapy.

After reviewing your information, your therapist will reach out to schedule a free 15-minute telehealth consultation (and don’t worry, your future sessions don’t have to be virtual if you prefer something different).

During this chat, you’ll share a bit about your therapy needs and have a chance to ask any questions to see if it feels like a good fit. If both you and your therapist are on the same page, you will discuss scheduling, book your first appointment, and go over next steps together.

How confidential is therapy?

What happens in therapy remains confidential, with a few important exceptions. These include situations where there is concern that you may harm yourself or others, or if you disclose that a child or dependent adult is being abused or neglected. Your therapist will review the confidentiality guidelines with you during your first appointment, and these are also outlined in your initial paperwork.
